MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State senior long snapper
Luke Barnes was named to the Special Teams U All-American selection Watch List Wednesday morning.
He is one of five players from the FCS on the list including Brady Sorenson (South Dakota State), Colten Menges (Alcorn State), Kevin Crabtree (Villanova), and Matthew O'Donoghue (Montana). The list also includes nine players from the Power 5 conferences and he is one of three from the state of Alabama.
The selections are based on each player's snapping ability, athletic ability, NFL readiness, character. Barnes was instrumental in Alabama State's special team success, playing in all 11 games. He helped the Hornets finish 17th in the nation in net punting, with
Anthony Craven earning a spot on the Punter of the Year Watch List.
The award comes on the heels of Barnes being named to the Phil Steele Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) preseason second team.
