@BamaStateMBB returns to action Tuesday afternoon

ITTA BENA, Miss. | Alabama State returns to action Tuesday afternoon against Mississippi Valley State University at the R.W Harrison Sports Complex, with tip scheduled for 45 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game.

The game was originally scheduled for Monday night, however, due to winter weather that came through the state of Mississippi Sunday night the game was moved to an afternoon start. The game will be carried on the Hornet Sports Network following the women's game that tips at 2 pm.

Alabama State (0-3, 0-3 SWAC) is in search of the first win of the season after not opening the 2020-21 campaign until January. The Hornets dropped their only road game of the season thus far against UAPB Saturday night despite shooting over 50 percent from the floor. Kenny Strawbridge finished the contest with his first career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while LaTrell Tate finished with a career-high 17 and Brandon Battle 11 in the loss.

The Hornets will enter the game Tuesday averaging 58.3 points per game, while shooting 36.9 (58-of-157) percent from the floor. They average 34.3 rebounds per game and have dished out 29 total assists through three games – averaging 9.7 assists per game. Strawbridge leads the team in scoring at 12.7 points per game and rebounding at 9.0 rebounds per game, while DJ Heath is at 8.0 points per game with seven total assists and 10 total steals.

Meanwhile, Mississippi Valley State (0-9, 0-1 SWAC) has not played since January 2 after their game on Saturday was postponed due to Alabama A&M pausing activities this week. The Delta Devils are led by three players in double figures – Kam'Ron Cunningham (12.9), Terry Collins (12.2) and Devin Gordon (12.0).

Alabama State leads the all-time series, which dates back to 1964, 45-41. The Hornets have won 28 of the 42 games played in Montgomery, while Mississippi Valley State leads the series in Itta Bena 25-15. Alabama State swept the season series last season, including winning 87-74 at the Harrison Complex.
