@BamaStateMBB hits the road to face in-state rival Saturday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | For the first time since 2018, Alabama State will face Alabama A&M in Huntsville at T.M. Elmore Gymnasium after playing the last two years in Birmingham.

The game is scheduled to tip at 4:30 pm and will be carried on the Hornet Sports Network.

Alabama State has faced the Bulldogs 86 times in school and has recorded 60 wins in the series, including winning the last nine times. The two teams last met on February 15, 2020, in Montgomery, with the Hornets holding on in the final seconds for a 61-58 victory.

This year, the two teams have combined to play six games, with Alabama A&M (2-0) last taking the court December 19 in a double-overtime victory over South Alabama. The Bulldogs have yet to play a conference game after having been paused since January 2. Meanwhile, Alabama State (1-3, 1-3 SWAC) has played four games on the season, including winning 64-51 over Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday night after the game was postponed from Monday due to winter weather.

Kenny Strawbridge, who recorded back-to-back double-doubles this week, leads Alabama State with 12.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per game through four games. The redshirt sophomore recorded his first career double-double against UAPB with a career-high 18 points and ten rebounds and followed that up with 11 points and a career-high 11 rebounds in the win over Mississippi Valley State.

LaTrell Tate is coming off the bench for the Hornets to average 8.0 points per game and his shooting 91.7 (11-for-12) percent from the free throw line, while Brandon Battle is averaging 7.8 points and 6.0 rebounds a game for Alabama State. Senior guard DJ Heath is ranked 16th nationally in steals, averaging 2.5 per game (10 total).

Tickets available to the public are sold out for the contest in Huntsville.
