BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State redshirt sophomore guard Kenny Strawbridge was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Player of the Week after his performances against Alcorn State and Southern this past week.

Strawbridge gained national attention for his buzzer beater against Southern Monday night, landing as a Bonus Play shortly after the game concluded and number three overall on ESPN. He recorded 16 points and 14 rebounds in the win, his third double-double of the season. But it was his last second heroics that gained national attention after he picked up a blocked shot with less than a second remaining, getting the shot to fall as the buzzer went off ending a two-game losing streak for Alabama State.

For the week, he averaged 9.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, and continues to lead the team in both categories through the first seven games of the season. He finished the week shooting 66.7 percent from the free throw line, including 10-for-13 from the charity stripe against Southern.

Alabama State returns to action Saturday on the road against Texas Southern. The tip is set for 7:30 pm and can be heard on the Hornet Sports Network.
