MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The three-time defending Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champion Alabama State men's tennis team opens the 2021 season with a pair of home matches this weekend at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.
The Hornets host Point Friday afternoon at 1 pm in the season opener, before facing North Alabama on Saturday at 1:30 pm.
Alabama State was 4-6 overall and 3-0 in conference play last year before the season was shortened due to COVID-19. The Hornets return
Chris Andre,
Alejo Calvis,
Luka Markovic and
Juan Rodriguez to a team in search of their fourth straight conference title.
Last season, Alabama State pulled away for a 5-2 victory over Point by winning four singles matches and the doubles' point, with Markovic picking up a three-set victory in the match at number three singles. The Hornets dropped a 4-3 decision to North Alabama last season, despite winning the doubles' point and a pair of singles matches.
Admission is free to all home tennis matches; however, Alabama State is a mask mandatory campus at all venues.
