GAME NOTES
- The games in California are a homecoming of sorts for a pair of coaches on the Alabama State staff as Mo Williams arrived in Montgomery last year from Cal State Northridge, while associate head coach Trey Johnson played the 2011 season for the Los Angeles Lakers.
- It is not only a homecoming for the coaching staff, but for a pair of players as well as Kareem Clark (Sacramento, Calif.) and DJ Jackson (San Bernardino, Calif.) return to their home state for the first time since joining the Hornets last season.
- Juan Reyna (San Antonio, Texas) is perfect from the free throw line this season as he has hit all 15 of his attempts from the charity stripe through the first nine games.
- E.J. Clark (Dallas, Texas) gave Alabama State a spark off the bench against Samford, one of three of players in double figures, as he scored 10 points in the loss.
- Alabama State and Pepperdine have met just one time in school history, in a game played in New Orleans (La.), on December 19, 2012 – a Pepperdine victory. The Hornets have played two other teams from the West Coast Conference – Gonzaga and San Francisco.
- The game with Pepperdine will be the seventh on the road this season for Alabama State, and they are looking to end a 12-game skid on the road dating back to last season.
- The Hornets have started six different lineups this season.
- Alabama State has been successful this season when leading at the break, winning two of the three games they have led at halftime. They are also above .500 in games that they outrebound the opponent, score more points in the paint, and record more points off turnovers.
- Alabama State is ranked in the top 75 in the country in blocked shots per game (61st/4.7), free throw attempts (63rd/178), and total blocks (42nd/42) entering the week.
