MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State dropped a pair of games to open the 2021 season at the Stinger Classic, falling to Western Carolina and eighth-ranked Alabama, Friday at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
Western Carolina 7, Alabama State 0
Alabama State dropped their season-opener to Western Carolina in the second game of the Stinger Classic despite a pair of hits from
Jazmine Dodd. She went 2-for-2 on the night, collecting two of the team's five hits on the day. Dodd also reached base after being hit by a pitch, while
Kindall DeRamus stole her first base of the season in the loss.

Kaley Anthony, and
Alex Massie each picked up a hit in the loss.
Skyler Sullivan (0-1) suffered the loss, working seven innings and allowing seven runs off of 11 hits. He also struck out six hitters.
Morgan Maddaluna led Western Carolina (1-0) at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Meanwhile, the Catamounts recorded five extra base hits including a pair of home runs.
(8) Alabama 10, Alabama State 0
The eighth-ranked Crimson Tide defeated Alabama State (0-2) in the nightcap and held the Lady Hornets hitless in the five-inning contest. Jenna Johnson and Elissa Brown each picked up a pair of hits for Alabama (1-0), with Brown adding a pair of runs.
Vanessa Bradford (0-1) suffered the loss, working 1.1 innings and allowing five runs on just two hits. Montana Fouts (1-0) and Sarah Cornell combined on the perfect game for Alabama, striking out a combined 11 hitters.
Alabama State returns to action Saturday night against Tennessee Tech at 7 pm, with day two of the tournament set to start at 9 am inside the Barbara Williams Softball Complex. Each game of the tournament will be carried on the Hornet Sports Network.
Only those listed on the player pass list will be allowed inside the Barbara Williams Softball Complex this season due to social distant seating and COVID-19 protocols. No tickets will be sold at any time for the venue, and masks are mandatory while visiting the Alabama State University campus and its athletic venues.
