MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Despite a steady downpour and temperatures hovering around the mid-40s, Alabama State was able to take the field time since the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament in the Fall of 2019. Alabama State was able to get on the board in the second half but fell to the Trojans 3-1 at the ASU Soccer Complex Wednesday.
Troy (3-9-1) scored first when Melissa Kuya-Strobel found the upper corner in the ninth minute for a 1-0 lead, before they pushed the score to 2-0 just before half when Taytum Terrell took a pass from Matilda Jakobsson and pushed the ball into the lower right corner in the 39th minute.
After the Trojans pushed the lead to 3-0 in the 59th minute,
Kassandra Schoen scored her first career goal in the 65th minute on a pass fromÂ
Teaggan Ilela to cut the deficit to the final margin.
Alabama State returns to action Sunday night against UAB, with kick set for 6 pm at the ASU Soccer Complex. Fans are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs to the ASU Soccer Complex and to enter the complex on the West side and not behind the team's benches, remaining socially distant. Masks must be worn at all times throughout the contest as Alabama State University and its athletic facilities are mask mandatory.
