BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State used a ten-hit attack and rode the arm of
Skyler Sullivan to an 8-1 victory Nicholls State in the opening game of the UAB Tournament Friday.
Sullivan (2-3) gave up one and scattered nine hits in picking up her second win of the season, while a trio of players picked up a pair of hits each in the win. Kindall Deramus,
Kat McGlamry and
Jaeda Gardner led the way for Alabama State, picking up six of the ten hits on the day.
Alabama State scored a run in each the second and third innings, before erupting for four in the fourth highlighted by a double off the bat of
Jazmine Dodd. They added two more in the sixth for the final margin.
The Hornets return to action Saturday in Birmingham, facing Eastern Illinois (11 am) and Nicholls State (4 pm) before closing out the tournament on Sunday.
