MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns to the field for the first time in three weeks, hosting No. 21/24 Jackson State at ASU Stadium Saturday afternoon on ESPN2.
Kick is set for 3 pm.
Alabama State (1-1, 1-1 SWAC) last took the field back on February 24 against Southern in the season opener in Montgomery, falling 24-21 at ASU Stadium. Redshirt freshman
Ryan Nettles finished 16-for-27 passing for 149 yards and a pair of touchdowns in his collegiate debut, while
Ezra Gray and
Jacory Merritt combined to rush for 138 yards in the loss.
Colton Adams led the Hornets on the defensive side of the ball with 11 tackles.
The Hornets picked up a win over Alcorn State after the Braves opted out of the spring season.
Meanwhile, Jackson State (3-0, 2-0 SWAC) comes into the game ranked for the first time since 2011 after appearing at No. 21 in the Coaches' Poll and No. 24 in the FCS Stats Perform poll. The last time the Tigers were ranked, Alabama State came away with a 21-14 victory on the road in Jackson. The Tigers come in with wins over Edward Waters, Grambling State, and Mississippi Valley State.
The two teams last met back on October 12, 2019 in Jackson (Miss.), with Alabama State coming out on top 31-16. In that contest,
Jett Even finished 15-for-26 for 189 yards and a touchdown, while
Jahod Booker finished with seven receptions for 106 yards.
Due to COVID-19 protocols and socially distant seating, only those fans who purchased season tickets and those on the Player Pass List will be allowed inside ASU Stadium. There will be no walk up sales the day of the game.
