MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State and Tuskegee split a pair of games at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex Thursday night in non-conference action, with the Lady Hornets winning the opener.
Alabama State 2, Tuskegee 1
Alabama State had to come from behind in game on to record their third victory of the season over Tuskegee after the Golden Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. The Lady Hornets were able to get a pair on the board in the fourth when
Jazmine Dodd scored on a Tuskegee error after a sacrifice bunt off the bat of
Kaley Anthony.
They took the lead in the fourth when
Lauryn Maher scored on an RBI groundout by
Morgan Gaither.
Dodd,
Arianna Atchley, and
Jaeda Gardner each picked up a hit in the win.
Skyler Sullivan (3-3) picked up the win on the mound, scattering six hits and striking out six.
Tuskegee 10, Alabama State 7
The Lady Hornets had four players pick up multiple hits as they pounded out nine as team in the loss.
Kindall DeRamus, Gardner,
Jamaica Flowers and
Madison Myers each picked up two each. Myers came in to pitch the final six innings in relief of starter
Vanessa Bradford and gave up three runs in the top of the seventh inning in the loss.
Alabama State put six on the board in the first inning and one other in the third, while Tuskegee scored five in the third and added the three in the seventh for the win.
Alabama State returns to action Saturday in the road against North Alabama, with first pitch scheduled for 1 pm in a doubleheader.
