MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State opened Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play with 5-0 victory over UAPB at the ASU Soccer Complex Friday night.
The Lady Hornets jumped on the board in the first 13 minutes of the match with a pair of goals within 30 seconds of each other.
McKenna Wiscombe and
Kassandra Schoen each went to the upper right of the goal to put Alabama State up 2-0 early in the first half.
They extended the lead to 3-0 in the 31st minute when
McKenna Lupori converted on a penalty kick and pushed the lead to 4-0 right before half when
Teaggan Ilela scored her first goal of the year in the 36th minute.
The Lady Hornets added another goal in the 49th minute when Schoen added her second for the final margin. Defensively, Alabama State held UAPB to just one shot on goal.
Alabama State (1-2, 1-0 SWAC) returns to action against Grambling State Sunday afternoon at 1 pm. Fans are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs to the ASU Soccer Complex and to enter the complex on the West side and not behind the team's benches, remaining socially distant. Masks must be worn at all times throughout the contest as Alabama State University and its athletic facilities are mask mandatory.
