MONTGOMERY, Ala. I Alabama State surrendered four runs in the eighth and a final run in the ninth inning to Jackson State as they fell in game two of the weekend conference series on Saturday afternoon.
After giving up a run in the first and two in the second inning, Alabama State (12-16, 8-6 SWAC) got on the board in the top of the fourth after a solo home run from
Santiago Garcia, his second in as many days, before Jackson State added another run to take a 4-1 lead heading into the fifth.
The Hornets responded to retake the lead with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, scoring the first off a sacrifice fly by Garcia to bring home
Jabronski Williams, followed by a double to center from
Angel Jimenez to bring home two more runs.
Chris Lewis brought home the final run of the frame after a single scored Jimenez.
Alabama State added to their lead in the seventh, as Jimenez scored his second run of the game on a passed ball, while Lewis hit a two run bomb to put the Hornets up 8-4 heading into the final two innings, however Jackson State responded to score five runs in the final two innings to take game two of the series.
Jeremy Rivera started the game for the Hornets, working 6.0 innings and giving up four runs off of eight hits along with three strikeouts, while
Alexander Castro (0-2) picked up the loss in relief after surrendering five runs off six hits in 2.1 innings.
The series will conclude on Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1 pm inside Braddy Field.
