AUBURN, Ala. | Abdi Hussein led a contingent of Alabama State student-athletes this weekend at the War Eagle Invitational with several top-10 finishes, while he set a new school record in the 5000-meters.
Hussein ran in a fast 5000-meter race at the Hutsell-Rosen Track this weekend, finishing 11th overall but setting a new school record in the process with a time of 14:38.95.
Meanwhile,
Tionna Brown led the women's side over the weekend with the fastest time in the 100-meters, pacing three other Lady Hornets in the top-10. Brown finished in a time of 11.29 seconds and was followed by
Nia Jack in sixth with a time of 11.78 seconds, and
Halima Barlow in 10th with a time of 11.87 seconds.
Brown was joined atop the medal stand by
Michaela Lewis in the 800-meters as she finished first with a time of 2:06.21 and was followed by
Shamia Jones with a sixth place finish in a time of 2:10.42. Meanwhile,
Vinnelle Grant finished fifth in the 400-meters in a time of 56.27 seconds to wrap up top-10 finishes for the Lady Hornets.
On the men's side,
Matthew Clarke finished second in the 100-meters in a time of 10.44 seconds and was followed by teammate
David East in fourth with a time of 10.46 seconds.
Marcus Cade finished in the top-10 in a pair of field events as he finished 10th in the high jump with a clearance of 1.95 meters (6-04.75) and second in the long jump with a distance of 7.08 meters (23-02.75). He was joined in the top-10 in the long jump by
Xavier Clark in ninth with a distance of 6.55 meters (21-06.00).
Demier Shipley and
Caesar Kemp rounded out the top-10 finishes on the men's side with a fourth place finish in the triple jump and shot put, respectively. Shipley jumped a distance of 13.77 meters (45-02.25) and Kemp finished with a distance of 16.69 meters (54-09.25).
