BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State followed up an appearance at the UAB Blazer Invitational on Friday with another successful meet at the Vulcan Invitational, also hosted by UAB in the Birmingham Crossplex.
Marcus Cade (Thomson, Ga.) led the way for the Hornets on the day, taking first in the men's long jump with a distance of 7.07 meters, followed by a second-place finish in the triple jump at 14.08 meters.
Meanwhile,
Cedric Jones (Tuscaloosa, Ala.)
earned three top-ten finishes in his events, taking fifth in the high jump (1.76 meters), seventh in the pole vault (4.00 meters), and tenth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.89 seconds).
Freshman
Nicholas Moseley (Pittsbury, Calif.) also had a good day, finishing seventh in the high jump (1.71 meters) and 14th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.74 seconds)
The Hornets also had a pair of top ten finishes in the 60-meter hurdles with
Tyson Riley (Augusta, Ga.) and
Mason Foster (Pike Road, Ala.) finishing ninth and tenth respectively with times of 7.14 and 7.15 seconds.
The final three top-15 finishers on the men side were
Preston Walton (Jonesboro, Ga.) who earned a seventh-place finish in the mile run at 5:10.95, followed by
Xavier Clarke (Miramar, Fla.) who finished tenth with a 6.36-meter-long jump and
Caleb Walker (Greensboro, Ala.) who finished 15th in the weight throw at 10.49 meters.
On the women's side,
Kyana Evans (Detroit, Mich.) took home an eighth-place finish in the 60-meter dash at 7.72 seconds, while
Vinnelle Grant (Amityville, N.Y.) finished fifth in the 800-meter event with a time of 2:18.14.
Alabama State had three finishers in the mile run, in
Shamia Jones (Albany, Ga.) who took ninth place at 5:19.82, followed by
Rebecca Bernardin (Turk and Caicos Island) at 5:44.11, finishing 13th and
Jamila Thomas (Lewisville, Texas) at 5:56.46, good for 16th.
UP NEXT
Alabama State will return to Birmingham next weekend for the Samford Open on Friday and Saturday, followed by the annual KMS Invitational on Sunday, January 23 all to be held in the Birmingham Crossplex.
