BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State grabbed a pair of weekly honors from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) on Friday morning following their performances from the weekend in Birmingham.
Shamia Jones (Albany, Ga.) was named the Female Track Athlete of the Week after her performances in a pair of meets over the weekend. She recorded a top five finish on Friday at the Blazer Invite, finishing fifth in the 600-meters with a time of 1:34.13. She followed that up with a ninth-place finish in the mile run with a time of 5:19.82 at the UAB Vulcan Invitational.
Meanwhile,
Marcus Cade (Thomaston, Ga.) was named the Male Field Athlete after his performances at the same two meets. He finished seventh in both the high jump (1.91 meters) and long jump (6.86 meters) at the Blazer Invite, before leading the way at the UAB Vulcan Invitational with a win in the long jump (7.07 meters) and a second-place finish in the triple jump (14.08 meters).
UP NEXT
Alabama State returns to action on Saturday at the Samford Open in Birmingham, with the meet taking place at the Birmingham Crossplex.
