MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns to action this weekend for their third indoor meet of the 2022 calendar season, participating in the Samford Open at the Birmingham Crossplex on Saturday.
The Hornets will compete against the likes of Alabama A&M, Alcorn State, Belhaven, Berry, Bethune-Cookman, Bryan, Emory, Jackson State, Jacksonville State, Lee (Tenn.), Mississippi State, Mississippi University for Women, Mississippi College, Mobile, Samford (host), Savannah State, Shorter, South Alabama, Southern, Talladega, Webber, William Carey, and Xavier (La.).
The meet will be the third at the Crossplex for the Hornets in a week's span, having completed last weekend in a pair of meets hosted by UAB. They will look to improve on their results from a week ago and use performances from reigning Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) track and field honorees
Shamia Jones (Albany, Ga.) and
Marcus Cade (Thomaston, Ga.).
Jones finished fifth in the 600-meters and ninth in the mile last week, while Cade participated in four different events and won the long jump on Sunday. He also finished second in the triple jump. Alabama State had several student-athletes finish in the top 15 in both meets last weekend, including
Kyana Evans (Detroit, Mich.) who finished eighth in the 60-meters on Sunday.
The meet is scheduled to start Saturday morning and run throughout the remainder of the day.
