MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Alabama State University (ASU) women's volleyball team picked up a pair of wins over Texas Southern, 3-1, and Alcorn State, 3-0 on the first day of the SWAC Cluster hosted by Alabama State University.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

SET ONE

• Alabama State started the first frame strong with an early 5-3 lead. 
• ASU kept their foot on the pedal as they put together a 7-0 run to jump ahead, 12-4
• TSU committed a late error that gave ASU the 25-12 win in set one and a 1-0 set lead.
• Jada Rhodes registered four kills in set one, followed by A'Nylah Cobb with three more.

SET TWO

• Texas Southern scored first once again and held a 2-0 advantage early in set two.
• Both team tacked on two more scores before ASU went on a 5-0 rally to extend the advantage to 7-4.
• TSU regained the lead with a 3-0 run to claim a 22-21 lead over ASU. 
• The Hornets were able to knot the score at 23 apiece late in set two.
• Texas Southern claimed the second set win on an error from ASU and a kill from Thalia Cordero-Moreno.
• Set score was tied at 1-1.

SET THREE

• TSU went up 4-1 to start the third frame.
• After falling behind 8-6, ASU scored eight straight to take a commanding 14-8 lead. 
• ASU went on to win the third set, 25-20 behind three kills apiece from Jada Rhodes and Taniya Jones in set three. 

SET FOUR

• Kalysia Bates opened set four with three kills, followed by one from Jada Rhodes to give ASU a 4-0 lead.
• TSU tied it at four apiece soon after.
• Both teams battled back and forth before ASU opened up a 6-0 run to extend the advantage to 14-7. 
• ASU went on to claim a 25-20 fourth-set victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 

• Alabama State recorded 43 kills on 113 total attacks while TSU registered 31 kills on 109 total attacks.
• Jada Rhodes (12), Maya Thompson (9), and Taniya Jones (8) led the way for the Hornets in kills.
• Kalysia Bates put up a team-high five aces, followed by three from Emily Brooks.
• Emily Brooks led ASU in assists with 15 in the win. 
• Temperance Chatman tallied a team-high 12 digs at libero for ASU.

• Alabama State won the first set, 25-19 after five kills from Kalysia Bates in the opening set. 
• A'Nylah Cobb tallied three kills in the second frame to give Alabama State a 25-21 victory and a 2-0 set lead.
• Alabama State dominated the third set 25-10 to secure the sweep over Alcorn State.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 

• Alabama State recorded a .304 hit percentage with 39 kills on 92 total attacks.
• Kalysia Bates (12) and A'Nylah Cobb (11) led ASU in kills in the win. 
• Bates also registered five blocks to add to her stat line. 
• Emily Brooks tallied 16 assists, followed by nine from Brooke Adams.
