BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | After conluding the regular season with a dominant 3-1 win over Alabama A&M, the Alabama State women's soccer team is set to enter the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament as a fourth seed and slated to take on fifth seed Texas Southern at 1 p.m. on Thursday in Prairie View, Texas.

MATCHUP PREVIEW
Thursday's matchup will be the 15th meeting between the Lady Hornets and Tigers with Texas Southern leading the series 8-5-2. This matchup is also a rematch of the 2021 SWAC quarterfinal in which Alabama State prevailed with a 3-0 shutout over the Tigers.
Alabama State finished the regular season on a two-game win streak to enter the tournament with a 6-7-4 record.
Texas Southern wrapped up the regular season on a two-game skid to finish 4-10-3.
ALABAMA STATE
The Lady Hornets look to stay undefeated against Texas opponents this season after posting a 0-0 draw against Texas Southern this season (Sept. 23) and trouncing Prairie View A&M just two days later, 5-0. Alabama State went 4-2-3 in conference play this season including a win over Mississippi Valley (1-0) and Alabama A&M (3-1) to end the season.
ASU posted seven shutouts this season with the help of senior goalkeeper Sheila Sanchez. Sanchez recorded 101 saves while only allowing 20 the entire season. The Castellon, Spain native started in 16 games for the Lady Hornets and faced 225 shots in the 2022 campaign.
Kassandra Schoen leads Alabama State in goals (7), points (16), and shots on goal with 16 for the season.
TEXAS SOUTHERN
The Lady Tigers have been outscored by opponents 39-11 this season. Hayden McMillan leads the TSU in goals with three and just 10 shots on goal. Jayden Christophe recorded 123 saves at goalkeeper while allowing 38 the entire season.
TSU posted an above .500 record in conference play this season (4-3-2).
