MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University head football Coach Eddie Robison announced the promotion of offensive line coach Alex Jackson III to Associate Head Football Coach on Wednesady, Nov. 23, 2022.
Jackson is in his firs season on the Hornets' staff after joining the staff after a stint as the co-offensive coordinator at Lincoln University. While at Lincoln, Jackson coached quarterback Zamar Brake who set a new program record for passing yards in a game (454) and tied the program record for passing touchdowns in a game. He also coached running backs Tori Hicks and Hosea Franklin, and offensive lineman Cyril Spells to All-MIAA honors.
Jackson also spent time at several SEC programs including a year at Tennessee (2020) where he was an offensive analyst and assistant offensive line coach. While there, he helped coach offensive lineman Trey Smith who earned All-American honors and was selected to the Senior Bowl. He also spent time at Georgia in 2014, helping the Bulldogs become the top scoring offense in the the SEC at 41.3 points per game and rushing offense (257.8).
He spent time at Arkansas in 2010 as an offensive intern on a team that featured a 4,000-yard passer, 1,500-yard rusher, and five 600-yard receivers. He also spent a year as a student assistant at Georgia (2005-06) to jumpstart his career with an SEC championship (2005).
No stranger to HBCU football, Jackson spent two years at Florida A&M as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach from 2018-2019. During his last season with the Rattlers, they finished as the Black College Sports Network HBCU National Champions and were ranked nationally in the FCS STATS and Coaches' Poll. They also finished second in the MEAC in scoring and landed several student-athletes on the all-conference team and All-American honors.
In 2018, the helped coached three players who made the all-conference team, and the Rattlers finished third in the MEAC in scoring.
Prior to his time at Florida A&M, he spent three seasons at Prairie View A&M as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. During that stint, he coaches several players to all-conference honors and in 2015 the Panthers finished 8-2 overall. That year, he coached the top scoring offense in the nation (44.9 ppg), and a team that finished in the top 25 nationally in several categories. He also spent two years at Mississippi Valley State (2012-14).
Jackson spent two summers in the Bill Walsh internship with stops at Minnesota (2012) and Houston (2013).
A letterman at Georgia, he helped the Bulldogs to the 2002 SEC championship and was a starter on the highest scoring offense in the SEC> He also helped the Bulldogs to the 2003 Sugar Bowl championship before a stop with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL.
