Big Second Half Run Propels Duquesne Past @BamaStateMBB

PITTSBURGH, PA | Duquesne University used a big 19-2 second-half run to stretch out a five-point lead and upend the Alabama State University men's basketball fell to 75-57 on Wednesday.

 HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Dukes held an early 10-6 advantage before ASU went on a 5-0 run to take an 11-10 lead on two Christian McCray free throws with 12:14 to go in the first half. 
  • The lead would see-saw back and forth as Jordan O'Neal gave the ASU a 19-18 lead with 7:06 left in the opening period. 
  • Two free throws from Roland McCoy cut a three-point Dukes' lead to 22-21 only to see Duquesne take a 27-23 lead on a Rotroff hook shot with 4:08 remaining in the first half. 
  • Duquesne went on a 5-0 run to take a 32-25 lead, only to see a McCoy 3-pointer cut the Dukes' deficit to 32-28 at the 1:44 mark. 
  • The first half saw 10 lead changes and five ties, but the Hornets shot 29.3 percent from the floor to trail 37-28 at intermission. 
  • Duquesne took a 43-32 on a Tevin Brewer jumper in the paint with just over 1:30 into the second half. 
  • A Range 3-pointer at 14:07 of the second half cut the deficit to 44-39 
  • The Dukes answered with a 19-2 run, taking a 60-41 lead with under 10 minutes remaining in the game.
  • Alabama State managed to cut the Dukes' lead to 72-56 on Duane Posey's jumper in the paint with 2:57 left, but the Hornets could not climb any closer. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Duquesne marked the sixth straight first-time opponent for the Hornets.
  • Alabama State won the battle on the boards outrebounding the Dukes 45-37 overall and 28-14 in the first half. 
  • Alabama State collected 21 of its 45 rebounds on the offensive glass.
  • Madlock scored in double figures for the fourth time this season, finishing with 10 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
  • O'Neal also had 10 points along with seven rebounds. 
  • Alex Anderson led ASU on the boards with eight boards. 
  • Grant led three Dukes in double figures with 23 points. 
  • DU's Austin Rotroff pulled down 10 rebounds and added 12 points followed by Quincy McGriff with 11 points.
