Five Hornets Named TheBlueBloods.com All-SWAC

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University placed five student-athletes on the 2022 TheBlueBloods.com All-SWAC first and second teams released on Friday, Dec. 16. 
 
Linebacker Colton Adams, defensive lineman Nelson Jordan II, and defensive back Keenan Isaac represent Alabama State on the first-team. Safety Irshaad Davis and cornerback Adrian Maddox claimed second team honors. 
 
Adams adds the selection to a growing list that includes First-Team BOXTOROW All-American, First-Team All-SWAC, Phil Steele First-Team All-SWAC and Hero Sports Sophomore All-American selections. Adams led the SWAC and FCS with 11.6 tackles per game while starting in all 11 games at middle linebacker. The Wetumpka, Ala., native registered a SWAC-best 128 tackles and ranked second with 52 solo tackles. Adams ranked seventh in the SWAC with 1.2 tackles for loss, two sacks, three pass breakups, and one forced fumble.
 
Nelson Jordan II terrorized opposing quarterbacks for a SWAC-best 10 sacks, 7.0 tackles for loss and 28 tackles. The Starkville, Miss., tallied a team-high six quarterback hurries. 
 
Isaac adds the honor to his First-Team Phil Steele All-SWAC selection. The Midfield, Ala., native led the team and ranked fourth in the SWAC with 10 passes defended, two interceptions and eight pass deflections. 
 
Davis list keeps growing, adding the honor to his All-SWAC Second-Team and Phil Steele All-SWAC second team honors. Davis was second on the team and ninth in the SWAC with 65 tackles, including 37 solo stops. The Carol City, Fla., native tied for sixth in the SWAC in passes defended with six while recording 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
 
Maddox tallied 49 tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack and two interceptions in his freshman campaign. The Jerry Rice Award finalist became the youngest player to intercept a pass at age 17 with his pick in the MEAC-SWAC Challenge against Howard to open the 2022 season.
 
The Hornets finished the season with a 6-5 record under first-year head coach Eddie Robinson Jr., which are the most wins by an ASU team in seven years.
