Trace Young named SWAC Player of the Week after pair of monster performances in conference play

MONTGOMERY Ala. | Alabama State junior forward Trace Young (Owensboro, Ky.) was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Player of the Week after a pair of monster performances in conference action this week.

Young averaged 25 points and eight rebounds per game over a pair of games against Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M, leading Alabama State back from double-digit deficits in the second half of both games. The junior helped lead the Hornets to a 79-73 victory over Bethune-Cookman after scoring 21 points and grabbing eight rebounds, while also blocking a pair of shots. He finished the game shooting 50 (8-of-16) percent from the floor and 40 (2-of-5) percent from beyond the arc.

He scored a career-high 29 points against Florida A&M in a 66-65 loss on Monday night, giving the Hornets the lead with 2:31 to play. The junior finished the night shooting 50 (8-of-16) percent from the floor and 90 (9-of-10) percent from the free throw line.

For the week, Young shot 50 (16-of-32) percent from the floor and 46.2 (6-of-13) percent from beyond the arc. He also shot 75 (12-of-16) percent from the free throw line.
