Alabama State defeats Arkansas-Pine Bluff in return to Acadome

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State extended their current win streak to two games after defeating Arkansas-Pine Bluff 91-80 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action inside the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Saturday afternoon.
 
In a hard-fought game from start to finish, Alabama State (9-12, 8-4 SWAC) led for over 23 minutes of play while outscoring Arkansas-Pine Bluff in bench points 41-26, paint points 40-26, and second chance points 20-13.
 
The Hornets also outscored the Golden Lions in every quarter but the second, where the teams scored 23 points each before half, with the Hornets leading 44-43 heading into the locker rooms.
 
Ayana Emmanuel (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) led Alabama State on the day with 22 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists, followed by Shmya Ward (Memphis, Tenn.) who scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds and three steals.
 
Tyesha Rudolph (Evergreen, Ala.) added 12 points, four rebounds and three assists, followed by Jada Nneji (Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada) 10 six rebounds. Meanwhile, DaKiyah Sanders (Birmingham, Ala.) dished out 10 assists along with three rebounds, while Tederia Ashley (Huntsville, Ala.) posted a near double-double, finishing with nine points and eight rebounds in the win.
 
Alabama State finished the game shooting 47.7 (31-for-65) percent from the field, 47.1 (8-for-17) percent from long range, and 74.1 (20-for-27) percent from the free throw line. UAPB shot 44.2 (23-for-52) percent from the floor, 41.2 (7-for-17) percent from three and 84.8 (28-for-33) percent from the charity stripe.
 
Golden Lions had three double figure scorers, led by Zaay Green with a game-high 31 points, followed by Kaila Walker and Maya Peat who added 21 and 11 points respectively.
 
UP NEXT
Alabama State will host Mississippi Valley State on Monday, February 14, with the conference doubleheader starting at 5:30 pm in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
