BATON ROUGE, La. | Isaiah Range (Cedar Hill, Texas) led a pair of players in double figures, but Alabama State played from behind most of the contest before falling to Southern 72-58 at the F.G. Clark Activity Center on Monday night.
Range came within two points of his career high, finishing with 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor including a pair of three-pointers. He also finished with six rebounds, a pair of steals, and three blocked shots on the night to lead Alabama State (6-17, 5-6 SWAC). He was joined in double figures by
Juan Reyna (San Antonio, Texas) who finished with 15 points.
The Hornets finished the night shooting 36.5 (19-of-52) percent from the floor and 31.8 (7-of-22) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 61.9 (13-of-21) percent from the free throw line, but they went down early in the first half and had to fight back to get it to single digits late in the opening frame. Southern (14-9, 9-2 SWAC) was able to pull away and build a double-digit lead in the conference contest throughout the second.
Terrell Williams, Jr. led four players in double figures for Southern with 17.
Alabama State finds itself in the thick of the race for seeding for the upcoming Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) tournament with seven games remaining on the schedule. The Hornets find themselves alone in sixth place heading into next weekend, one game ahead of four teams including Bethune-Cookman and Alabama A&M who remain on the Hornets' schedule.

QUOTES from head coach Mo Williams
"I am satisfied with the road trip, obviously not this game because it didn't go as planned. We didn't give ourselves a chance to. We started off in a dogfight, and we made some mental errors in some effort areas, and it hurt us. I thought overall, my goal was to come on this road trip – and I knew it was going to be tough to go 1-1 on this road trip – and we did and accomplished our goal with our next two games at home before we hit Florida."
"We have to take care of business. We just have to compete at a high level. Obviously, we have to protect home. We get Southern back at home at the end of the year with Grambling. We have to go to Florida and have to go to A&M, we just have to take care of ourselves. We have Valley and Pine Bluff at home next week. We don't have to worry about anyone else to help us, so we just need to take care of business, and we will be in good shape."
