MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Bailey Greenlee (Snohomish, Wash.) factored into both games in the circle leading Alabama State to a sweep of Florida A&M on Sunday in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opening doubleheader, winning game one 6-3 and game two 5-3 at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
Greenlee (6-7) picked up the win in game one, working seven innings and allowed three runs (just one earned) while scattering four hits with six strikeouts. In game two, Greenlee came out of the bullpen to work the final inning and gave up just one hit to record her first save of the season.
Elle Lunsford (Lawrenceville, Ga.) picked up the win in the second game working 5.1 innings and giving up three runs (one earned) with three strikeouts.
Kat McGlamry (Crawfordville, Fla.) led Alabama State at the plate in the second game, going 2-for-2 while five others picked up one hits each. In the opener,
Alex Massie (Pottsboro, Texas) went 2-for-3 for the Hornets.
How It Happened (Game 1)
- T2 | Florida A&M jumped on top of the Hornets in their second at-bat on a solo home run off the bat of Destiny Cuevas (1-0, Florida A&M).
- B3 | Jaeda Gardner (Pike Road, Ala.) forced a decision by stealing second which allowed Madison Myers (Brownsville, Tenn.) to score from third before Gardner scored herself on a wild pitch. Alabama State added to the lead when Lauryn Maher (Atoka, Tenn.) scored on a wild pitch, before Kindall DeRamus (Helena, Ala.) doubled home Destinee Dixon (Bullard, Texas) and Massie for the lead (6-1, Alabama State).
- T5 | Florida A&M trimmed the lead down on a throwing error (6-3, Alabama State).
How It Happened (Game 2)
- B2 | Alex Preston (Stockton, Calif.) reached on outfield error that drove in both Arianna Atchley (Millbrook, Ala.) and Jazmine Dodd (Bentonville, Ark.), before DeRamus singled through the right side to drive home Preston (3-0, Alabama State).
- B4 | McGlamry tripled home Preston (4-0, Alabama State).
- T5 | Florida A&M used an RBI single to get on the board in the inning (4-1, Alabama State).
- B5 | Dodd drove home Alexia Denby (Murrieta, Calif.) on an RBI groundout (5-1, Alabama State).
- T6 | The Rattlers used an infield error and an RBI groundout to score a pair of runs (5-3, Alabama State).
