BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State swept the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) awards in men's track and field after the performances of
Matthew Clarke (Six Roads, Barbados) and
Marcus Cade (Thomaston, Ga.) this week, announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.
Clarke was named the SWAC Male Track Athlete of the Week after finishing second in the 100-meters at the Black & Gold Invitational (hosted by UCF) with a time of 10.44 seconds. The time is the 26th-fastest time in the nation after the opening weekend of outdoor track and field.
Meanwhile, Cade was named the SWAC Male Field Athlete of the Week after three top 10 finishes at the Black & Gold Invitational last weekend. Cade finished third in the high jump with a clearance of 2.02 meters (6-07.50), sixth in the long jump at 7.28 meters (23-10.75), and fifth in the triple jump at 14.62 meters (47-11.75). He currently ranks 30th (long jump), 35th (high jump), and 42nd (triple jump).
Alabama State returns to action this weekend in Starkville (Miss.) at the 2022 Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays hosted by Mississippi State.
