STARKVILLE, Miss. | Kyana Evans (Detroit, Mich.) led Alabama State on the final day of the 2022 Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays, winning the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.86. The senior continues to impress early in the outdoor season, winning the race by nearly two seconds over Cathrina Morris of Mississippi State (1:03.05).
Matthew Clarke (Six Roads, Barbados) led the men's side for the Hornets with a second-place finish in the 200-meters with a time of 20.63 seconds – the top collegiate time in the race. He finished just behind unattached runner Zachary Jewell.
Result (Men)
- The 4x100-meter relay team for the men finished second in the section and second overall in the race with a time of 41.89 seconds, The team finished just behind Central Arkansas (41.38) and ahead of Mississippi College (41.90) in the race.
- Nicholas Moseley (Pittsbury, Calif.) just missed out on the top 15 in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.43 seconds, finishing just behind a pair of runners from Samford – Bryce Williamson and Damian Hines.
- Justus Trainer (Saraland, Ala.) finished third in the 100-meters for the Hornets, running the second-fastest time of the collegiate athletes in the race, finishing with a time of 10.54 seconds. He finished behind Adell Colthrust of Jackson State (10.44) and just ahead of Evan Brooks of Samford (10.55).  He also finished 11th overall in the 200-meters with a time of 21.93 seconds – just ahead of Demetrius Jackson of West Alabama.
- Daniel Bayeshea (Kingston, Jamaica) finished eighth overall – one of three Hornets in the competition – in the shot put with a throw of 14.50 meters, hitting the mark on his four throws. He finished just behind Daniel Pepper of Mississippi State with a throw of 14.79 meters.
- Marcus Cade (Thomaston, Ga.) finished 11th in the long jump with a jump of 6.78 meters – hitting the mark on his second and third jumps. Meanwhile, Xavier Clarke (Miramar, Fla.) finished 12th overall in the competition.
Results (Women)
- The 4x100-meter relay team kicked the day off the Alabama State, finishing third overall with a time of 47.29 seconds just behind UAB (46.56) and William Carey (45.49).
- Rebecca Bernardin (Turks and Caicos Island) finished ninth overall in the 1500-meters with a time of 4:51.72, finishing just behind Emma Selph of Central Arkansas (4:51.28) and Laura Thompson of UAB (4:50.74).
- Vinnelle Grant (Amityville, N.Y.) finished 17th overall in the 800-meters with a time of 2:32.17. She finished behind Grace Ritchie of Mississippi State (2:30.72) and Taylor Hayes of Jackson State (2:29.71). Meanwhile, Jasmine Kennerson (Dayton, Ohio) was the top finisher in the 100-meters for the Hornets, finishing seventh in one of the fastest heats of the day.
- Ulani Toussaint (Miami, Fla.) finished 11th overall in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.89 seconds, just behind Jada McDougle of Mississippi State (24.85) and Ebony Tolliver of UAB (24.83).
- Dasia Newell (Clinton, Md.) just missed out on the top 15 in the javelin with a throw of 26.08 meters on her third attempt. She finished just behind Natalie Louw (Central Arkansas) and Alexandra Woodberry (Mississippi State).
