MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State steps out of conference play over the next two weeks to prepare for the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament, hosting UAB at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
Alabama State (7-6), the SWAC regular season champion, looks to win their third consecutive match after wins over Samford (4-3) and Alabama A&M (4-0) in the last week. The Hornets also have a non-conference victory over Southern Miss earlier this season, while also playing in-state foes Troy and Auburn this season.
Matis Amier (Epernay, France) leads Alabama State in singles play with a 7-3 record including 5-0 at number six singles, while
David Jeanne Grandinot (Lisieux, France) leads Alabama State with a 5-2 record with three of the wins coming at number five singles. Two others have four wins in singles play, while in doubles the team of
Samrakshyak Bajracharya (Kathmandu, Nepal) and
Ruan Du Preez (Cape Town, South Africa) leads the team with a 4-2 record.
Meanwhile, UAB enters the match with a record of 7-11 on the season.
The match is scheduled to begin at 1 pm and admission is free to the event.
