MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State dropped a non-conference match to Southern Miss 4-0 at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon. The Hornets have two home matches remaining in the regular season including one against West Alabama on Tuesday afternoon.
Southern Miss captured the doubles point with wins at number two and three, while the match at number one was at 4-3 when the point was decided. Leading 1-0, the Golden Eagles captured three singles matches to clinch the point, including at number three where Monique Burton defeated
Urska Velec (Maribor, Slovenia) 7-5, 6-0. They captured matches at number four where Suhana Das defeated
Francesca Duca (Ploiesti, Romania) 6-3, 6-0 and at number five (7-5, 6-0).
Bea Acena (Dubai, UAE) was leading her match at number six over Alyssa Richter 7-6 (4), 3-0 when the match was halted.
