AUBURN, Ala. | Alabama State finished the War Eagle Invitational with three top five finishes over the course of the weekend and several top 20 finishes against of the best teams in the Southeast on Saturday.
Shamia Jones (Albany, Ga.) finished fourth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:08.85, finishing behind Edith Sklenska of Troy in a time of 2:07.07. She also finished behind Eusila Chepkemei (Middle Tennessee / 2:06.77) and Presley Weems (Auburn (2:06.720). Meanwhile,
Kyana Evans (Detroit, Mich.) finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.82 seconds, finishing as the fourth best collegiate student-athlete in the race. She finished behind Tina Marin (Harvard / 23.69), Aalliyah Francis (Auburn / 23.50) and Joella Lloyd (Tennessee / 23.39) in the event.
The men's 4x100-meter relay team made up of
Justus Trainer (Saraland, Ala.),
Matthew Clarke (Six Roads, Barbados),
DeMarkis Adams (Birmingham, Ala), and
Nicholas Moseley (Pittsbury, Calif.) finished fifth overall with a time of 41.04 seconds. They finished behind Tennessee (40.20), Indiana State (40.25), Troy (40.75), and Appalachian State (40.97) in the event.
Result (Men)
- Trainer led a contingent of nine runners in the 100-meter dash, finishing 15thh overall with a time of 10.65 seconds, finishing just .03 seconds out of the next spot and cross the line as the 14th collegiate student-athlete in the race. He also finished 17th overall in the 200-meters with a time of 24.67 seconds.
- Mason Foster (Pike Road, Ala.) finished 20thh overall in the 200-meters with a time of 22.14 seconds to lead six runners from Alabama State across the line.
- Moseley finished 20th overall in the long jump at 6.34 meters.
Results (Women)
- Ulani Toussaint (Miami, Fla.) was the lone runner in the 100-meters and finished with a time of 12.01 seconds to finish 18th overall in the event, and she was the 15th best collegiate student-athlete in the event.
- Rebecca Bernardin (Turks and Caicos Island) finished 11th overall in the 3000-meter Steeplechase with a time of 11:54.79 in a race where the facility record was broken.
- Penina Chelangat (Eldoret, Kenya) led a pair of runners in the top 20 of the 5000-meters for Alabama State, finishing 17th overall with a time of 21:21.43. She was joined by Kayleigh O'Neal (San Diego, Calif.) who finished 19th overall with a time of 22:42.65.
