MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State came up short in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center, falling 4-2 to Western Carolina. Four of the singles matches on the day between the two, with three of the matches being completed.
The top four matches in the order all went to three sets while the opening set at number five singles went to a tiebreaker.
Doubles Play
- Western Carolina claimed the doubles' point with wins at number one and number two, with the match at number one being decided in a tiebreaker.
- Alabama State was able to claim a win in doubles' play when the number three team of Sahra Bouchaala (Aix-En-Provence, France) and Timothee Legaud (Severac, France) winning 7-6.
Singles Play
- Alabama State claimed a pair of wins in singles play including at number one where Bouchaala finished off an undefeated day with a win over Kata Foldeak 6-4, 1-6, 6-2. Her doubles partner, Legaud, also won her singles match – claiming a 7-6, 6-2 win at number five over Hoda Habib.
- Three other matches went to three sets including at number two where Jacy Smith was able to push past Urska Velec (Maribor, Slovenia) 6-3, 2-6, 6-0. Meanwhile, the Catamounts were able to win another three-set match at number three where Antonella Benavides defeated Lizaveta Demchenko (Mogilev, Belarus) 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
- Francesca Duca (Ploiesti, Romania) was tied at number four in the third set when the match was halted 6-4, 1-6, 4-4.

Alabama State returns to action on Sunday afternoon with another non-conference matchup against Spring Hill on Sunday (April 3) in a doubleheader with the men beginning at 1:30 pm.
