TUSCALOOSA, Fla. | Alabama State competed in the Crimson Tide Invitational over the weekend with three student-athletes, competing against some of the nation's best in the event. The Hornets took just three student-athletes to improve on their times from this season and to allow others to prepare for the conference meet.
How It Happened
- Vinnelle Grant (Amityville, N.Y.) finished seventh in her heat of the 400-meters with a time of 57.14 seconds, finishing 11th overall in the event.
- Shamia Jones (Albany, Ga.) finished fifth in her heat of the 800-meters, which proved to be the fastest heat, in a time of 2:08.15. She finished fifth overall just behind Allison Rand of Tennessee (2:07.11) and Sandra Szpott of Southern Miss (2:08.15). Meanwhile, Rebecca Bernardin (Turk and Caicos Island) finished third in her heat and 16th overall in the race with a time of 2:16.23.
- Bernardin also finished 22nd overall in the 1500-meters with a time of 4:46.03, finishing just behind Erin Spreen of Tennessee (4:45.35).
