GULFPORT, Miss. | Alabama State took the lead in the top of the 10th inning before Prairie View A&M scored a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning for a 3-2 victory in the winners' bracket final at the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship Tournament.
Alabama State took an early lead in the top of the first before Prairie View A&M pushed a run across on a two-out sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning. The two teams traded scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth to set the stage for the final inning.
Kindall DeRamus (Helena, Ala.) and
Jazmine Dodd (Bentonville, Ark.) each finished with multiple hits in the loss, each going 2-for-5 with DeRamus scoring a run.
Bailey Greenlee (Snohomish, Wash.) suffered the loss after working 9.0 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts.
How It Happened
- T1 | DeRamus scored on a sacrifice fly from Destinee Dixon (Bullard, Texas) for the first run of the game (Alabama State 1-0).
- B7 | Jerrica Rojas lifted a sacrifice fly to left to score Taliya Talley from third to tie the game with two outs (1-1).
- T10 | Greenlee put a bunt down that scored Jaeda Gardner (Pike Road, Ala.) for the go-ahead run (2-1, Alabama State).
- B10 | Audrey Garcia singled up the middle to score a pair of runs to send Prairie View A&M into the championship round (3-2, PVAMU).

Alabama State will face Jackson State on Friday morning at 10 am, with the winner moving on to face Prairie View A&M in the championship round later that day.
