BLOOMINGTON, Ind. | Matthew Clarke (Six Roads, Barbados) qualified for the quarterfinals of the 200-meters at the East Preliminaries on Wednesday night.
Clarke finished fifth in his heat of the event with a time of 20.66 (20.656) seconds to grab one of the six at-large positions based on time for the Friday quarterfinals. He finished just behind Antonio Mitchell of Purdue as an automatic qualifier in a time of 20.64 seconds, and Kahleje Tillmon of Virginia Tech at 20.58 seconds.
The quarterfinals are set for 7:50 pm with the top three times from each heat and the next three fastest times advancing to Eugene for the NCAA Championships.
Meanwhile,
Kyana Evans (Detroit, Mich.) will have to wait another day to run as the 400-meter hurdles will be run on Thursday night at 8:20 pm. The senior qualified with a time of 59.33 seconds and has a personal best of 58.53 second in the event in her career. She will be running in heat five in lane five and will be running against Kyla Robinson-Hubbard (Tennessee). Lydia Troupe (Georgia Tech). Dejah Grant (Hampton), Jewel Ash (Charleston Southern), Tessa Constantine (West Virginia), Savannah Sutherland (Michigan), and Asia Jinks (Auburn).
The heat will be one of six run on Thursday night with the top three from each heat advancing to the next round, along with the next six fastest times.
