Alabama State scored in four different events on Friday

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | Alabama State had several student-athletes qualify for finals in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and scored points in four events. Nicholas Moseley (Pittsbury, Calif.) scored points in the Decathlon on the men's side and Xavier Clarke (Miramar, Fla.) in the long jump, while Taranique Alexander (Miami, Fla.) and Rebecca Bernardin (Turks and Caicos Island) scored points in the long jump and 3000-meter Steeplechase respectively.

Men's Results
  • Matthew Clarke (Six Roads, Barbados) qualified for the finals on Saturday in a pair of events including the 100-meters where he finished fifth overall with a time of 10.44 seconds. He also qualified in the 200-meters finishing fourth with a time of 21.15 seconds.
  • Moseley scored the first points of the meet for the Hornets in the Decathlon where he finished seventh overall with 5,413 points. He finished first in the 100-meters of the event with a time of 10.69 seconds and finished third in the long jump of the event with a distance of 6.70 meters.
  • Xavier Clarke (Miramar, Fla.) finished fourth in the long jump after hitting the pit with distance 7.35 meters.
  • A pair of student-athletes, Daniel Bayeshea (Kingston, Jamaica) and Tarik Simpson (Wichita, Kan.) just missed scoring points in the meet in the hammer throw finishing ninth (35.49 meters) and 10th (33.16 meters) respectively.
Women's Results
  • Kyana Evans (Detroit, Mich.) qualified for the finals on Saturday in three different events on the second day of the meet including in the 100-meters where she ran the fastest time in prelims at 11.68 seconds. She also ran the fastest time in the prelims in the 200-meters at 23.99 seconds.
  • The senior also qualified in the 400-meter hurdles when she ran the third-fastest time in the prelims with a time of 1:02.43.
  • Ulani Toussaint (Miami, Fla.) qualified in a pair of events including in the 100-meters where she finished sixth in the prelims with a time of 11.80 seconds, and in the 200-meters where she finished seventh overall with a time of 24.40 seconds.
  • Vinnelle Grant (Amityville, N.Y.) qualified for the finals in the 400-meters with a time of 55.36, finishing sixth overall, while a pair of Hornets qualified in the 800-meters. Shamia Jones (Albany, Ga.) ran the fastest time in the 800-meters in a time of 2.11.07, while Bernardin finished fifth overall in the same event with a time of 2:15.27.
  • Alexander scored the first points of the meet for the Hornets with a fifth-place finish in the long jump, finishing with a distance of 5.78 meters, while A'Nylah Cobb (Tallahassee, Fla.) just missed scoring in the javelin with a throw of 30.31 meters in the javelin.
  • Bernardin scored more points for Alabama State in the 3000-meter Steeplechase with a fourth-place finish in a time of 12:47.46.

The teams will compete in the final day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championships on Saturday with titles on the line. The event can be seen on the SWAC Digital Network.
