Hornets Volleyball Caps Off ISTAP HBCU Volleyball Challenge with a Narrow Loss to Delaware State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Kalysia Bates led Alabama State in kills once again with 11 on the day but the effort wasn't enough as Delaware State escaped the Acadome with a 3-0 victory over the Lady Hornets in their last match of the ISTAP HBCU Challenge on Saturday, September 10, 2022.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alabama State found themselves down 21-18 late in the first set before DSU went on a 4-1 scoring run to extend their advantage to 1-0 for the match. 
  • Delaware State went up 2-0 behind a narrow 25-22 second set win.
  • DSU took an early 3-0 lead over ASU early in the third set before ASU brought the score within one at 5-6 after three straight attack errors from DSU.
  • Despite keeping the score within two early in the set, DSU completed the sweep with a 25-15 third set win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Alabama State hit .128 as a team compared to DSU's .337 hit percentage. 
  • Kalysia Bates tied for a game-high in kills with 11 on the day and a dig to add to her stat line.
  • Madison Beasley led ASU in assists with 11 in the setter position. 
  • Temperance Chatman registered eight digs on the day for ASU.
  • Mahogany Vinson rejected two attacks on the day for a total of two solo blocks.
