TROY, Ala. - In their second match of the Trojan Invitational, the Alabama State women's volleyball team picked up their second win of the season after pushing Jacksonville to five sets and securing the 3-2 win on September 16, 2022, inside Trojan Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SET ONE

• The Lady Hornets registered nine kills in the first set but Jacksonville would beat that number by two with 11 for the set. 
• Alabama State pulled within one (16-15) but the Jacksonville would open up a 4-0 scoring run to extend their advantage to 20-15.
• The Dolphins would go on to outlast the Lady Hornets to claim set one with a 25-20 victory
• Despite a loss in the first set A'nylah Cobb and Christyn Ashby recorded three kills apiece in the opening set.

SET TWO

• Alabama State held an early 7-3 advantage behind two kills from Jada Rhodes early in set two. 
• Both teams found themselves knotted at 18 midway through the second before ASU put together a 3-0 scoring rally to hold the 21-18 advantage over Jacksonville
• The Dolphins continued to fight though as ASU reached set point, the Dolphins surged back to regain the lead at 25-24
• The Lady Hornets would finish the second set on a 4-1 to claim the victory (28-26) and knot the set score at one apiece.

SET THREE

• Jacksonville jumped out to a 5-1 lead early in the third set after three early errors from ASU.
• ASU went on an 8-4 run to even the score at 9-9, a run that featured two kills from Kalysia Bates..
• The Lady Hornets remained in control for most of the set and went on to win 25-18 to extend their advantage to 2-1. 

SET FOUR

• The Dolphins got in front by five (6-1) in set four after four early errors from the Lady Hornets.
• Jacksonville held the advantage for the entire set and went on to claim the fourth set 25-22 to even the set score at two apiece.

SET FIVE 

• The Lady Hornets found themselves down by one (5-4) in set five before opening up a 5-0 run to regain the lead at 9-5.
• ASU would hang on to win 15-10 and claim the 3-2 match victory over the Dolphins.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• The Lady Hornets recorded 62 total kills with an attack percentage of .138, while Jacksonville tallied 49 kills for a .153 hit percentage.
• Five Lady Hornets registered double-digit kills led by Jada Rhodes with a team-high 13. 
• A'Nylah Cobb (12), Mahogany Vinson (10), Kalysia Bates (10), and Taniya Jones (10) were amongst the Hornets with double-digit kills.
• Temperance Chatman tallied a game-high 25 digs at libero for ASU which is good for her fifth double-digit dig match of the season. 
• On the defensive end, Mahogany Vinson picked up a team-high three solo blocks.
• Jenna McNamara and Julia de Sa both recorded a team-high 13 kills for the Dolphins.
• Kariana Ayala-Drew had team-high 24 digs for Jacksonville.
