TROY, Ala. - In the last match of non-conference play, the Alabama State women's volleyball team picked up their second-straight win in a 3-2 victory over the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs at the Trojan Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SET ONE

• Jada Rhodes and Kalysia Bates picked up the first two kills of the day for ASU to notch the score at 3 apiece early in set one. 
• Gardner-Webb continued to gain momentum as they held a narrow two-point lead (11-9) before opening up a 5-0 run to extend the advantage to seven (16-9).
• GWU would score three more before ASU put together a rally to pull within three (19-16).
• Gardner-Webb finished set one with three-straight kills to win the first set 25-20 and extend their advantage to 1-0.
• Jada Rhodes finished set one with a team-high four kills to start the day.

SET TWO

• Both teams traded scores to find themselves tied at 4-4 early in set two. 
• A'Nylah Cobb picked up three early kills to put ASU out in front 10-5. 
• The Lady Hornets remained dominant through the second set after going on a 6-1 scoring run to balloon their lead to 16-7.
• ASU responded with a convincing 25-12 win in set two to knot the set score at 1-1.
• Jada Rhodes and A'Nylah Cobb led the way for the hornets with four kills apiece in the set two win.

SET THREE

• Kalysia Bates would pick up three early kills to push ASU out to a 6-4 lead to start the third set.
• GWU would continue to fight though as they tied the score at 6 apiece and eventually regained the lead at 11-9.
• The Lady Hornets put together a 4-2 run to notch the score at 13. 
• Both teams managed back-to-back three-score runs to knot things at 16 in a hard-fought third set.
• Gardner-Webb extended their advantage to three to go up 20-17 over ASU.
• Alabama State would pull within one at 24-23 but GWU would hold steady to secure the 25-23 third-set victory.

SET FOUR

• ASU would commit two quick ball handling errors to go down 2-0 but responded with a 6-0 scoring run to jump out in front 6-2.
• The Lady Hornets held the lead for the entire fourth set to once again tied the set score at 2-2 and force a fifth set.

SET FIVE 

• Jada Rhodes, Kalysia Bates, A'Nylah Cobb, and Christyn Ashby combined for seven kills in the final set.
• ASU held on to win 15-9 and secured the 3-2 match victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• The Lady Hornets recorded 61 total kills with an attack percentage of .325, while Gardner-Webb tallied 45 kills for a .140 hit percentage. This match marks ASU's third 60-plus kill match of the season.
• Jada Rhodes garnered a season-high and game-high 20 kills on 38 total attacks for a .447 attack percentage. 
• A'Nylah Cobb (16) and Kalysia Bates (10) were amongst the Hornets with double-digit kills.
• At Libero for the Lady Hornets, Temperance Chatman registered a game-high 17 digs with three assists to add in the win. 
• Emily Brooks handed out a match-high 34 assists at setter for ASU.
• ASU had six players record a service ace in the win
• Avery Cole led GWU in kills with 15 on 36 total attacks.
• Morgan Hornaday led the Bulldogs in assists with a team-high for GWU.
