JACKSON, Miss. - The Alabama State women's volleyball team picked up their third-straight win with a 3-0 sweep over Jackson State to open conference play on Friday, September 23, 2022, inside T.B. Ellis Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE
- A'Nylah Cobb opened up set one with back-to-back kills to set the tone early for Alabama State with a 2-1 lead.
- Both teams found themselves knotted at seven apiece before the Hornets took a two-point advantage (9-7) after a Mahogany Vinson kill and an error from Jackson State.
- The Lady Hornets put together a 4-0 scoring run to take a 16-12 lead over the Tigers, a run that saw Mahogany Vinson's second kill of the set and three Jackson State errors.
- Alabama State finished the first set on a 9-3 run to win 25-15 and take a 1-0 set advantage.
- A'Nylah Cobb finished the first set with a team-high five kills.
SET TWO
- Alabama State jumped out to an early 7-3 lead in the second set with a kill from Jada Rhodes and six Jackson State errors.
- The Lady Hornets extended their advantage to five as they went up 13-8 over the Tigers.
- Jackson State stormed back with a 5-1 run to cut the deficit to one (14-13).
- ASU would extend their lead again to three (17-14) after Mahogany Vinson and Jada Rhodes registered one kill apiece.
- Both teams traded kills before Jackson State went on a 4-0 run to take a 21-20 lead late in the second set.
- Kalysia Bates recorded her second kill of the set to push the Lady Hornets to set point first.
- JSU's Jayla Whitten tallied a kill knot the score at 24 apiece.
- Kaylah Jackson secured the second set victory (26-24) for ASU with a kill and an error from JSU.
SET THREE
- The Tigers committed three errors to start the third set with a kill from Kalysia Bates to give ASU an early 4-1 lead.
- The Tigers put together a 5-1 rally to take a 7-5 advantage over the Lady Hornets.
- The Lady Hornets responded with an impressive 9-0 streak to balloon their lead to 14-7 over the Tigers.
- Alabama State remained dominant as they extended their advantage to 10 with a 19-9 lead over JSU.
- Despite six more scores from Jackson State, ASU secured the sweep with a 25-15 third-set win over the Tigers.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Lady Hornets recorded 37 total kills with an attack percentage of .270, while Jackson State tallied 28 kills for a .030 hit percentage.
- Kalysia Bates, Jada Rhodes and Taniya Jones registered eight kills apiece followed by seven kills from A'Nylah Cobb.
- Temperance Chatman registered a game-high 17 digs with two assists to add to the win.
- Emily Brooks handed out a match-high 19 assists at setter for ASU.
- Brooke Adams led ASU in services aces with three and seven digs to add to her stat line.
