MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Alabama State University is proud to announce a partnership with The Zone, a mobile app designed to monitor and improve the mental health of student-athletes. The partnership will promote the physical and mental wellness of ASU's student-athletes as a continued priority for the college. Alabama State will join 7 colleges & universities around the US currently using The Zone's software within their athletic program.
"Here at Alabama State University, we pride ourselves in creating a well-rounded student-athlete experience. A major part of that is placing priority on our student's physical and mental health. The Zone gives us an opportunity to engage and check in with our student-athletes to offer the support they need." said Courtney Perkins, Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine at Alabama State.
Created by former student-athletes, The Zone's groundbreaking technology allows student-athletes to access wellness resources, easily communicate with campus staff, and track their mood. School administrators can access aggregate data and insights surrounding student-athlete wellness through a personalized dashboard, giving teams a unique understanding of what is happening within the athletic program while maintaining student privacy. Last year, 51% of student transfers were due to mental health-related issues. By using The Zone, Alabama State can continue its commitment to holistically supporting student-athlete mental health and wellness and driving performance on and off the field.
"We are thrilled to partner with Alabama State Athletics this school year. As former student-athletes, we were immediately impressed with Alabama State's forward thinking and vision to holistically support their student-athletes. We look forward to growing this partnership and giving them the tools and the data they need in order to achieve a more transparent and supportive culture on campus." said Erik Poldroo, Co-Founder of The Zone.
Alabama State sponsors 16 varsity sports and competes at the NCAA Division I level within the SWAC Conference.
