MONTGOMERY, Ala. | TJ Madlock paced three players in double figures with 23 points to help the Alabama State University men's basketball team claim a 70-61 win over Mississippi Valley State University in the SWAC opener on Wednesday inside Dunn Oliver Acadome.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
	- Ernest Minton's bucket gave MVSU a 6-5 lead at the 15:59 mark, which would be the Delta Devils' second and last lead of the game. 
 
	- Alabama State went on a 7-0 run to take a 13-6 lead on a TJ Madlock layup with 11:31 to go in the first half.
 
	- A Roland McCoy 3-pointer and an Isaiah Range layup put ASU up 24-14 lead with 6:01 remaining in the first half.
 
	- Madlock netted 15 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor and 6-for-6 from the charity stripe in the first half.  
 
	- Madlock made four straight free throws to extend the lead to 33-23
 
	- Kadar Waller cut the Hornets' advantage to 33-25 at halftime.
 
	- Two free throws apiece by Madlock and Posey pushed Alabama State's lead to 39-27 with just over four minutes gone in the second half. 
 
	- Madlock's jumper at the 13:00 mark pushed the lead to 14 at 49-35. 
 
	- Rayquan Brown cut the MVSU deficit to 57-47 with 5:42 left in the second half. 
 
	- An ASU 6-2 spurt raced the lead back out to 63-49 at the under 4:00 media time out of the second half. 
 
	- Alex Anderson's layup extended the lead to 65-51with under 3:00 to go in the contest.
 
	- A Range 3-point play gave the Hornets a 70-56 lead in the final minute as the Hornets secured the 70-61 win.  
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
	- Madlock finished with 23 points and seven rebounds to register his seventh game in double figures this season and the 13th time in his career.
 
	- Range followed Madlock with 15 points and Roland McCoy added 14 points. 
 
	- Jordan O'Neal had eight rebounds as the Hornets held a 40-36 edge on the boards.
 
	- Madlock finished 10-for-10 from the free throw line as the Hornets made 21-of-24 free throws for 87.5 percent.
 
	- Alabama State entered the game third in the SWAC in offensive rebounds, grabbing 14 of its 40 rebounds on the offensive end.
 
	- The Hornets held the lead for 36:54 of the game.
 
	- Terry Collins led Mississippi Valley State with 16 points, followed by Brown with 14 points.
