@BamaStateWBB Goes Cold in Loss at Jackson State

JACKSON, Miss. | Alabama State University women's basketball shot 26 percent and could not overcome a hot shooting Jackson State University team in a 90-48 SWAC loss on Saturday at the Williams Athletic and Assembly Center.

 HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Jackson State claimed an early 7-2 before a 3-pointer by ­Ayana Emmanuel trimmed the score to 7-5 at the 6:53 mark of the first quarter. 
  • Emmanuel, who had seven of ASU's nine points in the opening quarter, made another layup to cut the JSU lead to 10-7 with 3:18 remaining in the first quarter. 
  • Jackson State outscored 25-9 in the first quarter, closing the quarter on a 7-0 run 
  • The Tigers opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run, outscoring Alabama State 15-10 to build a 40-19 lead at halftime.
  • The Tigers started the third quarter on a 17-5 run to build a 57-24 lead. 
  • Alabama State went 1-for-13 from the floor for 7.7 percent with nine points coming from the free throw line to trail 67-30 heading into the final quarter. 
  • The Lady Hornets closed on a good note, scoring 18 points and shooting 38.9 percent.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
  • The game featured a rematch of the 2022 SWAC Women's Basketball Championship game. 
  • Ayanna Emmanuel led the Lady Hornets with 11 points. 
  • Shmya Ward and Donyelle Bolton followed with seven points apiece while Boldon had a team-high four rebounds. 
  • Jackson State had four players score in double figures, led by Kashuna Luckett's 17 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. 
  • JSU's Angel Jackson had 16 points, four blocks, and five rebounds. 
  • The Tigers held a 36-21 advantage on the boards and outscored ASU 50-20 in the paint.
