JACKSON, Miss. | Alabama State stayed perfect in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action with a 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 23-25, 25-14) victory over Jackson State at the Lee E. Williams AAC on Sunday afternoon.

Jada Rhodes paced three players in double-figure kills with 17, while
Jylen Whitten finished with 15 and
A'Nylah Cobb 10.
Madison Beasley led Alabama State (8-12, 7-0 SWAC) with 27 assists, seven digs, and three service aces, while
Emily Brooks added 17 assists.

Temperance Chatman led the Lady Hornets with 31 digs.

How It Happened
SET 1 | Alabama State opened the match on a 5-0 run behind the serving of Beasley before Jackson State roared back to trim the deficit to 5-4. The Lady Hornets used a sideout and kills from Whitten and Rhodes to build an 8-5 lead. Jackson State took its first lead at 9-8 and extended the lead using a 6-0 run forcing a timeout. The two teams battled out of the timeout with the Lady Hornets going on a 6-2 run to take a 19-17 lead. Jackson State went on a 3-0 run to take a 20-19 lead before Rhodes tied the set up and 3-0 run that forced a timeout after the Lady Hornets grabbed a 22-20 lead. Alabama State was able to put the set away on a kill by Whitten.

SET 2 | The two teams traded points early in the set until a kill from Cobb, followed by a tandem block from Whitten and
Taila Gaines gave Alabama State an 11-8 lead. After a timeout called by Jackson State, the Lady Hornets went on a 4-0 run to extend the lead to 18-12 using kills from
Christyn Ashby and Rhodes, and a service ace from
Logan Horne to force a timeout up 18-12. The lead grew to as many as seven (22-15) before the Tigers pulled to within 22-17 forcing an Alabama State timeout. The Tigers closed to 22-19 before a pair of kills from Cobb helped put the set away.

SET 3 | The two teams battled throughout the first few points of the set before Alabama State went on a 4-0 run to grab a 12-7 lead using a pair of kills from Whitten and a service ace from Beasley. The Tigers fought their way back into the set, tying it at 13-all before back-to-back points by the Lady Hornets gave Alabama State a 15-13 lead. After Jackson State came back and tied the set at 21-all, Rhodes gave Alabama State a 23-21 lead with her 13th kill of the match to force a timeout. Jackson State came out of the timeout with back-to-back points of its own to tie the set up and force an Alabama State timeout. The Tigers continued the run with the final two points to force a fourth set.

SET 4 | Alabama State opened the set on a 7-0 run using an ace from Beasley, a pair of kills from Gaines and another from Ashby. Jackson State went on a 5-1 run and climbed to within two at 11-9 before a kill from Cobb pushed the lead to three at 12-9. The lead stayed there until a 4-0 run extended the lead to 17-11 forcing a Jackson State timeout. The run continued out of the timeout on a Whitten kill and a pair of attack errors by the Tigers grew the lead to 20-11.
