DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | Alabama State clinched a share of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) regular season championship with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-12) victory over UAPB at Moore Gymnasium on Monday morning.

Alabama State (14-12, 13-0 SWAC) won its 13th consecutive match behind the offensive attack of
A'Nylah Cobb with 10 kills.
Christyn Ashby finished with nine and
Taila Gaines with eight to lead the Lady Hornets.

Madison Beasley led the way for Alabama State with 24 assists, while
Emily Brooks added 15. Defensively,
Temperance Chatman led the way with 19 digs.

How It Happened
SET 1 | Alabama State jumped out to a 5-2 lead before UAPB was able to trim the lead to 5-4. However, the Lady Hornets answered with 7-0 to take a 12-4 lead using a kill from
Kaylen Hines and forcing mishits from UAPB. The Lady Hornets extended the lead to 15-5 before UAPB closed to within six at 15-9. Alabama State used a 6-2 run to pull ahead by double-digits at 10 (21-11), before closing out the set with a kill from Cobb.

SET 2 | After dropping the first point of the set, Alabama State answered with an 8-0 run to take an 8-2 lead, taking control of the set. After UAPB closed to 8-3, the Lady Hornets extended the lead with an 8-2 run to push the lead to 16-5. The Lady Hornets closed the set out with a 3-1 run using kills from Ashby,
Jada Rhodes, and Cobb for the 2-0 overall lead.

SET 3 | Alabama State led 12-6 before UAPB pulled to within five, however, following that point from the Golden Lions, Alabama State went on a 6-0 to push its lead to 18-7 behind a service ace from Beasley and kills from Cobb, Ashby (two), and
Jylen Whitten. A 5-1 run pushed Alabama State to the brink of the win at 23-9 before the Golden Lions went on a 3-1 run to pull to within 12 (24-12). The Lady Hornets closed out the match with a kill from Cobb.

Alabama State returns home for the first of three home matches to close out the regular season on Friday night (Nov. 3) against Alabama A&M. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. inside Lockhart Gymnasium.
