HOUSTON, Texas | Alabama State finished off its sweep of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Cluster with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-18) victory over Southern at the H&PER Arena on Monday morning.

Jada Rhodes led Alabama State with 14 kills and eight digs (also added three service aces) in the win, while
Madison Beasley recorded 19 assists and
Emily Brooks 14.
Temperance Chatman led Alabama State (7-12, 6-0 SWAC) defensively with 17 digs, while
Jylen Whitten added 11.

Alabama State hit .280 against the Jaguars to close out the three matches, while holding Southern to just .030 in the match.

How It Happened
SET 1 | Alabama State wasted little time in jumping out to an early lead, starting the match on a 7-0 run led by
Christyn Ashby with a pair of kills and a pair of service aces from Whitten. A 5-0 run gave Alabama State a 12-3 lead before kills from Rhodes,
A'Nylah Cobb, and Whitten pushed the lead to 17-5 later in the set. Southern was able to cut the deficit to 24-12 before Rhodes put the set away with another kill.

SET 2 | The Lady Hornets opened the second set the same way as the first with a 7-0 run highlighted by a service ace from Beasley and a kill from
Taila Gaines. Southern used a run of its own to trim the deficit to 13-11 before a 7-1 run pushed the Lady Hornets to 20-12 leads. The run was highlighted by a pair of kills from Gaines and kills from Cobb and Rhodes. After Southern closed to 23-18, Alabama State put the set away with kills from Cobb and Whitten for a 2-0 overall lead in the match.

SET 3 | Alabama State jumped out to a 5-1 lead to open the third set with a pair of kills from Rhodes and another by Beasley. After Southern closed to 5-4, the Lady Hornets went on an 8-1 run to pull ahead 13-5 using kills from
Kaylen Hines and Whitten, and a service ace from Rhodes in the process. The Lady Hornets pushed the lead to 16-8 on a kill from Gaines before Southern scored five of the next eight points to pull to 19-13. However, Alabama State used a 4-0 run to grab a 23-13 lead using three kills from Rhodes. The Jaguars scored five of the next six to get the lead down to six before Hines ended the set and the match with a kill for the Lady Hornets.

Alabama State returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 15, on the road against Jackson State before heading to Itta Bena (Miss.) to face Mississippi Valley State on Monday, Oct. 16. Both matches are set for 4 pm.
