Alabama State Notes
	- The 100 points scored by the Hornets is the second time under head coach Tony Madlock (101 against Huntingdon last Halloween). The Hornets hit the mark with 6:13 remaining in the game. Prior to that contest, the Hornets had not scored 100 points in a game since December 30, 2015, against Fort Valley State (105-99).
- The 115 points scored is the most since the 1993- 94 season when the Hornets defeated Troy (115-98). Ten different players scored on the night for the Hornets.
- Madlock was picked as the first SWAC Player of the Week this year after averaging 17.5 points per game against Ole Miss and Iowa in the first two games of the season.
- Memphis ties run deep for the Hornets entering the game on Friday night with three players on the roster from the city and a head coach that played at then-Memphis State University. The Hornets feature Madlock [Houston HS], Amarr Knox [Bartlett HS], and Tadarius Jacobs [Bartlett HS] on the roster. They also have their head coach, Tony Madlock, that played and coached at the school.
- Alabama State will play seven of its next nine games inside the state of Alabama, including tonight's game against Oglethorpe. The Hornets will face Memphis on the road Friday before playing three games in Birmingham against Samford [Nov. 22], North Carolina A&T [Nov. 24], and Merrimack [Nov. 25] during Thanksgiving week among other games.
- Alabama State currently ranks among the nation's best in several categories including 52nd [33.67] in bench points per game, 58th [5.0] in blocks per game, 22nd [20.67] in fastbreak points per game, 70th [37.2] in field goal percentage, 61st [76.3] in field goal percentage, 73rd [17.3] in free throws made per game, 15th [34.33] in defensive rebounds per game, 35th [15.67] in offensive rebounds per game, 12th [50.00] in rebounds per game, and 71st [26.4] in three-point percentage defense.
Memphis Notes
	- Memphis enters the contest with wins in its first two games, a road win over Missouri, and a home victory over SWAC-member Jackson State.
- Memphis is the reigning American Athletic Conference champion after finishing last season 26-9 overall and 13-5 in league play. However, Penny Hardaway's Tigers are replacing 13 players, including two all-conference first team members, from that squad.
- Rick Stansbury has been serving as the head coach through the first two games of the season and will do so again on Friday night.
- The Tigers were picked to finish second in the 2023-24 American Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, just behind 2023 Final Four participant and league newcomer, Florida Atlantic.
- Jaykwon Walton leads four players in double figures for the Tigers in scoring at 16.0 points per game, while Jahvon Quinerly has chipped in 13.0 points per game.
