MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alabama State University built a big lead, lost it, built it again, and then held on to a 13-11 victory to earn a series win (3-1) over Purdue-Ft. Wayne in the weekend finale Sunday at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mastodons opened the scoring with a run in the second inning but ASU answered in the bottom half with two runs to take the lead.
- After the Mastodons see-sawed back in front in the top of the fourth, ASU answered with a four-run inning and added two more in the fifth to take what looked like a commanding lead.
- Purdue-Ft. Wayne scored five times in the sixth inning to tie the game at 8-8 but the Hornets took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom half of the sixth and added two more in the seventh.
- Purdue-Ft. Wayne threatened once more in the ninth inning with three runs.
ON THE MOUND
- ASU used five different pitchers with Jorhan LaBoy making his first start. He went four innings and gave up three runs. Jose Toledo and Sebastian Colon followed with an inning each with Colon pitching what became the decisive sixth when the Hornets took the lead. He earned the victory in the process.
- Juan Azar pitched two-plus innings and gave way to Shadai Colon, who picked up his first save of the year.
- Colin Bauer got tagged with the loss for the Mastodons.
INSIDE THE BOX
- Randy Flores continued his torrid start to the season with two hits and three runs driven in. Trenton Jamison also had three RBIs.
- The Hornets got a home run in the fourth with Jayden Sloan going deep to drive in two. He finished with four RBIs.
- Ian Matos scored three times and had a triple in three official plate appearances. He walked twice.
UP NEXT: Alabama State will play its first road game on Tuesday (Feb. 21) traveling south to face Troy University at Riddle-Pace Field. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
