@BamaStateFB Names Juwan Lewis Running Backs Coach

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University head coach Eddie Robinson Jr., announced the official hiring of Juwan Lewis as the Hornets running back coach and recruiting coordinator.
 
Lewis comes to Alabama State after serving two seasons as a running backs coach and high school recruiting coordinator at Davenport University.
 
Lewis was under the 2022 Division II GLIAC Conference head coach of the year Coach Sparky McEwen. During the 2022 season, Lewis coached players such as Caleef Jenkins who earned second-team all-GLIAC and was selected as a team Captain. In addition, he also coached Kyshawn Richards who set a school record during the fall of 2022 with 6.7 yards per
carry.
 
Lewis's room also set a school record week 8 of the season against Lincoln University (CA) with 7 total TDs on the day between 5 different RBs. The DU RB room had a total of 1,343 yards combined on the year averaging 5.0 yards per carry on a total of 271 attempts as a unit.
 
Lewis came to DU after a stint at the University of Findlay. While coaching with the Oilers, Lewis helped mentor running back Garret Clark who won Co-Freshman of the Year in the G-MAC, as well as running backs Brian Benson and Derek Lynch who were First Team All-G-MAC. Prior to Findlay, Lewis mentored running backs, H-backs, and tight ends at Hiram College. Lewis was the run game coordinator at Hiram and served as running backs coach at Mount Union, a national powerhouse in NCAA Division III.
 
As a high school athlete, Lewis participated in the Army All-American Bowl before a college career at Eastern Michigan University and Ferris State University. He earned workouts with NFL and CFL teams before landing a spot in the Arena Football League with the Duke City Gladiators. In 2019, with the Bismarck Bucks and the Quad City Steamwheelers of the Indoor Football League (IFL), Lewis averaged nine yards per carry over the course of the season.
 
Juwan earned a bachelor's degree in communication media and theater arts from Eastern. Michigan where he played under both Ron English and Chris Creighton. He went on to earn his master's degree in education subject area curriculum from Ferris State University, where he played as a graduate student under Tony Annese.
 
Lewis is happily married to Cache Lewis and his son Kenzo Lewis and is a proud Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. member by way of Phi Zeta Chapter (Ferris State University).
