King's Three RBI Helps @BamaStateBB Hold On To Beat Jackson State

JACKSON, Miss. – Much like Friday's victory, the Alabama State University Hornets jumped out to a big lead in the early innings but this time had to hold on for a 9-7 win, clinching the series versus Jackson State at Braddy Field on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hornets scored four runs in the top of the second inning highlighted by a three-run homer from Randy Flores, which followed a run-scoring single by Jamal George.
  • After JSU dented the scoreboard on a pair of wild pitches in the second, .ASU got a Corey King single to center, scoring Jack Hay and Ian Matos.
  • Jackson State added a run to its total in the fourth but Alabama State answered in the sixth with two runs, the first on a double off the bat of Kyler McIntosh, followed by King's run scoring single.
  • The Hornets final run came in the seventh on Trenton Jamison's double to score Sloan.
  • Jackson State scored twice in the bottom half of the seventh but was shut out in the final two frames.
ON THE MOUND
  • Ricardo Rivera started and lasted six innings to pick up the win, his fourth of the season (4-0). He gave up five runs (four earned) on seven hits. He walked two but struck out six.
  • The Hornets went to the bullpen three times with Jordan LaBoy pitching an inning and a third. He gave up two runs on four hits. Evimael Quiles pitched two-thirds of an inning in perfect fashion.
  • Luis Rodriguez closed out the win with a scoreless ninth. He gave up a walk and struck out the side to gain his second save of the season.
  • Christian Womble (3-1) was tagged with his first loss of the year for Jackson State.
INSIDE THE BOX
  • Flores had two hits for the game including his third homer of the season. His three RBIs tied a season high.
  • Jamison, McIntosh and Sloan all doubled in the game. McIntosh scored twice and drove in one while Jamison and Sloan scored a run.
  • King had two hits, a run scored and three RBIs. Hay also recorded two hits and also walked.
  • Matos walked three times and scored a run.
UP NEXT: Alabama State goes for the series sweep on Sunday against Jackson State at Braddy Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. CDT.
